Burnout self-check: do I actually have it?

Eighteen statements, drawn from the three dimensions of burnout — exhaustion, detachment and lost efficacy — plus the recovery-debt signs that usually travel with them. For each one, answer how often it has been true over the last few weeks. Answer honestly, not aspirationally: nobody is watching, and nothing you answer is stored or sent anywhere — the quiz runs entirely on this page and forgets everything when you leave.

What this is — and isn’t

This is an honest self-check written in plain English, not a clinical instrument (it is deliberately not the Maslach Burnout Inventory or the Burnout Assessment Tool, which are validated research questionnaires) and not a diagnosis. There is no blood test or official cut-off for burnout anywhere — what this gives you is a structured look at your own answers and a sense of what to do next. If your result worries you, the right next step is a GP or occupational health, not a bigger questionnaire.

Over the last few weeks…

Private — nothing leaves this page

This self-check — its statements, scoring and result bands — was compiled with the help of AI tools and is an informal aid, not a validated clinical instrument; it may misjudge your situation in either direction. It is shared in good faith for general interest only, and is not medical advice or a diagnosis. Nothing here is a substitute for a doctor or a qualified health professional — if your result (or your gut) says something is wrong, please talk to one.
