UK maps
Maps of the United Kingdom as a whole, each one a small, self-contained page drawn with MapLibre GL on Ordnance Survey vector basemaps (following your device’s light or dark mode), with an OpenStreetMap layer underneath for Northern Ireland, which the OS data doesn’t cover. Pan, zoom, and tap anything on them.
A recurring theme in this section: the United Kingdom doesn’t have one statistical service, it has four. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland run their own censuses, surveys and deprivation indices, on their own timetables and their own scales. These pages mark how far each measure actually reaches rather than quietly dropping whatever doesn’t cover the whole country.

Local authority heat map
All 361 local authorities shaded by sixteen official measures: population and density, median age, country of birth, pay, employment, degrees, house prices, ownership and renting, car ownership, life expectancy, deprivation, recorded crime and burglary. Every figure is pulled from the ONS, Census 2021, HM Land Registry, OHID or police recorded crime, with each measure’s coverage across the four nations stated plainly, a searchable ranked table and a card for every council.

Towns of England & Wales
The same idea at the scale of actual places: 1,428 towns and cities drawn from the real extent of the buildings rather than any council boundary, sized by population and shaded by nine measures from Census 2021 and police recorded crime. Zoom in and each circle gives way to the town’s true footprint.
For the same treatment at the scale of one city, see the London borough heat map under London maps.
